STORY FILM / ICE IGNITE JUNIOR
A film about the shared commitment, responsibility and trust required to become more than a collection of individual skaters.

THE FILM
Many skaters. One moving whole.
Synchronized skating asks every athlete to understand that their choices affect everyone around them.
Every edge, turn and transition depends on someone else being exactly where they promised to be. The performance may last only a few minutes, but the team is built through hundreds of ordinary moments spent practising, travelling, laughing, struggling and beginning again.
Why We Skate is a portrait of what happens when young athletes learn to trust one another enough to move as one.
THE STORY BENEATH IT
Belonging is something they build together.
At an age when so much can feel uncertain, the team becomes a place with expectations, rituals, inside jokes and people who notice when someone is missing.
The deeper story isn’t simply that these athletes skate together. It’s that they become responsible for one another. Through that shared commitment, they discover what it feels like to be part of something larger than themselves.
SHAPING THE FILM
The film had to feel like the team.
The story was built from many voices rather than a single narrator. Each athlete carried one part of the film, just as each skater carries one part of the program.
Performance footage, practices, travel, natural sound and quieter moments away from competition were shaped into a collective portrait. The goal wasn’t to create a traditional sports highlight. It was to capture the identity that forms when a group of individuals begins to think, move and feel like a team.

FROM THE STORY

The program eventually ends. The trust, responsibility and sense of belonging can stay with them much longer.
