STORY FILM / MONTESSORI ACADEMY OF LONDON
A film following Montessori adolescents into the Costa Rican rainforest, where travel became learning, service and transformation.

THE FILM
A trip can change the way young people see themselves.
Leaving home created space for something different to happen.
The students entered an unfamiliar environment where comfort, routine and constant connection were no longer available. They had to pay attention, contribute, adapt and depend on one another.
We’re Not Tourists, We Are Travellers isn’t a vacation montage. It’s a film about what becomes possible when young people experience a place rather than simply consume it.
THE STORY BENEATH IT
The distance was part of the learning.
Adolescence asks young people to begin discovering who they are beyond the familiar roles and expectations waiting for them at home.
In Costa Rica, learning happened through direct experience. It happened while walking through the rainforest, completing meaningful work, living closely with others and encountering a world that didn’t exist for their convenience.
The deeper story wasn’t simply where they travelled. It was how the experience asked them to become more aware, capable and responsible.
SHAPING THE FILM
The film had to feel lived, not observed from a distance.
The story was shaped from documentary footage, student reflection, personal voiceover, natural sound and the landscapes that surrounded the experience.
The goal was to preserve the honesty of the trip. The discomfort as well as the wonder. The service as well as the adventure. The ordinary moments when students began seeing the place, one another and themselves differently.

FROM THE STORY

The value of travel isn’t only the distance covered. It’s what becomes harder to overlook once we return.
